Lipblush Tattoo FAQ's

What do You Need to Know Before Getting a Lip Tattoo?

Lip blush is a form of tattooing, where special permanent makeup pigments are implanted into the dermal layer of your skin. This process is different to a conventional body tattoo, as the pigments are implanted not as deep to ensure a long-lasting and natural-looking result, and to avoid causing damage to the skin.

Lip tattoo lasts 2 to 5 years.

Imagine waking up every day with flawless, perfect lips.

3 reasons to get a lip blush?

  • Enhance the natural colour of lips, to give them a subtle pop of colour.
  • Improve the symmetry of lips, and achieve the ideal balance.

5 steps on how to prepare for lip tattooing.

Getting ready for your lip tattooing treatment is an important step.

Step 1: Consultation and Patch Test

Before your treatment, we will schedule a brief consultation to conduct a patch test and check for any allergies to the pigment and numbing cream. We will provide you with medical forms to fill out, to identify any contraindications to the treatment. Your safety and well-being are our top priorities.

Step 2: Cold Sores

If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex virus), it is essential to take precautions. Speak to your doctor about anti-herpes medication before your treatment. This can help to prevent any outbreaks and ensures a smooth healing process.

Step 3: Lip Care Routine

Use a gentle lip scrub once or twice a week to help exfoliate any dead skin. Moisturise your lips daily to keep them hydrated and healthy.

Step 4: Avoid Alcohol and Blood-Thinning Medication

To minimise any potential complications, avoid alcohol and blood-thinners, such as aspirin, for at least two days before your treatment. They can increase bleeding and bruising during the healing process.

Step 5: Preparation

During your consultation, we will provide you with an easy-to-understand necessary steps to prepare for your lip tattooing treatment. This covers everything from pre-care routine to what to expect during and after the procedure. It helps to ensure you are fully prepared before your treatment.

By following these guidelines, you can confidently prepare for your lip blush, knowing that you have taken the necessary steps to a safe and successful treatment. At Beauty Bar in Ware Hertfordshire we are dedicated to providing you with the best possible care and results.

The step by step process of Semi-Permanent Lips.

At our permanent makeup clinic, we ensure your safety and satisfaction every step of the way.

Consultation and Patch Test:

Before we book your treatment, we will see you for a short consultation. We will perform a patch test and review your health and medication to make sure there are no contraindications to the treatment. Our aim is to create a safe and personalised treatment plan just for you.

Initial Treatment:

The second step involves booking your initial appointment. Before we start the lip blush procedure we will apply a numbing cream for a pain free experience. Once the cream has taken effect, we will draw your lip blush template. Your preferences matter to us, and we will offer guidance if we feel that certain colours or shapes may not suit your natural skin tones or facial features. We do not outline the lips outside the natural lip line.

The Lip Pigmentation Process:

We reserve 2.5 hours for the initial appointment, but the lip pigmentation itself takes around 60-90 minutes, and the rest of that time is spent on drawing the shape and preparation . We start by outlining the lips, that can create a borderless line that will not be visible after healing, or a more defined line. Once the outline is ready, we lightly powder the colour in the lips to create a lip blush look. The light blush of colour that is sheer and looks natural.

Touch-Up Appointment:

To perfect the results, we will see you for a complementary touch-up appointment. This session should take place 4-6 weeks following your initial treatment. It’s a relatively quick process, typically taking no longer than an hour. During this treatment we will perfect the look of your lip blush, going over the areas that healed slightly lighter or redefining the outline. Some clients find the touch-up session may not be necessary, and opt out from it. Those who do require minor touch-ups, this appointment is just for that precisely, we’re here to make sure you achieve the flawless look you desire.

If for some reason you would like to change the colour that you previously chosen, a touch up appointment is not the session during which we can address that. If you wish to change the colour, we will need to book a new appointment where we would have enough time to go through the whole new process.

Ready For Your Semi-Permanent Lip Transformation? Schedule your consultation today and get the confidence that comes with perfectly enhanced lips!

How long does lip blush tattoo appointment take?

The lip tattoo appointment takes around 2.5 hours. The touch-up appointment 4-6 weeks later, is a much quicker procedure, taking just over an hour.

During the initial session, we spend some time drawing a perfect shape that we can then follow when tattooing your lip blush. It also takes about 20 minutes for the anesthetic cream to take effect.

Once everything is prepped and numbed, the actual process of lip tattooing will not take that long.

Say goodbye to the hassle of daily lipstick application and hello to fabulous lips that stand the test of time.

Is Semi-Permanent Lip Blush Painful?

Curious about how comfortable is lip tattoo treatment? It really comes down to your personal pain threshold. While some people find the procedure slightly uncomfortable, others feel a tingling sensation, but all report that it’s less painful than getting a traditional body tattoo.

To ensure your comfort during this procedure, we apply a numbing cream, which effectively minimises any discomfort, and the only sensation you might feel is the gentle vibration of the needle touching your skin.

Our goal is to provide a pain-free and enjoyable experience. Get in touch with us today and book your consultation.

7 Tips on How To Look After Your Lip Blush.

To make sure you get the best healing results, it’s important to follow the aftercare.

1. Moisturise Lips Regularly:

Keep your lips moisturised throughout the healing process. We recommend to apply a healing cream containing panthenol, vit B5 such as Bepanthen cream, a minimum of three times per day.

2. Barrier Cream:

Immediately after your treatment, we will apply a barrier cream to protect your freshly tattooed lips. Leave the cream for 24 hours, refrain from touching the lip area, and simply let them be. This will protect your skin from bacteria and other pollutants.

3. Gentle Cleansing:

After the initial 24-hours, use sterile water or saline solution to wash your lips thoroughly. Avoid any harsh or abrasive cleansing agents. Apply the recommended aftercare cream using a fresh cotton bud to prevent contamination. Never touch the cream with the cotton bud that was in contact with your skin to prevent spreading bacteria and to contaminate it.

4. Hygiene Precautions:

It’s important to maintain good hygiene during the aftercare process. Always use a fresh cotton bud when applying the aftercare cream to avoid infecting the cream and potentially your skin. Get a new pillow case. Always wash your hands well before touching your lips.

5. Drink Through a Straw:

Avoid direct contact with your lips and any potential irritants. Use a straw when drinking. This will prevent unnecessary contact with the tattooed area and promote healing.

6. Avoid Hot and Spicy Foods:

Avoid hot and spicy foods during the healing period. It can potentially cause irritation or discomfort to your freshly tattooed lips.

7. Avoid Certain Activities:

It’s important to give your lips time to heal without unnecessary stress. Avoid sauna, gym workouts, swimming pools, and tanning during the healing period.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact. We’re here to help you achieve and maintain the perfect lips!

Are there any Contraindications to Permanent Lip Blush?

It’s important to be aware of the contraindications before proceeding with the treatment.

1. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding.

2. Viral, Fungal, and Bacterial Infections.

3. Cancer and Chemotherapy Patients.

It is recommended to wait at least 6 months after the last chemo treatment before getting permanent makeup. This waiting period allows your body to recover fully and reduces any potential risks.

Additional contraindications worth noting are:

  • Anaemia: If you suffer from anaemia, it is not advisable to proceed with semipermanent lip makeup. This condition can affect the healing process.
  • Psoriasis: People with psoriasis in the lip area should avoid permanent lip tattoo. Psoriasis can cause inflammation and complications during the healing process.
  • Uncontrolled Diabetes: If you have uncontrolled diabetes, it is best to postpone the lip tattooing procedure. Diabetes can impair the healing process and increase the risk of complications.
  • Steroids: If you have taken steroid tablets in the last 6 months, it is recommended to wait before getting a permanent lip tattoo. Steroids thin your skin, can affect the healing process and the overall outcome of the treatment.
  • Blood-Thinners: People when taking blood-thinners should avoid getting a semi permanent lip tattoo. These medications can increase the risk of excessive bleeding and bruising during the procedure.
  • Retinol Cream: If you have been using retinol cream in the lip area, it is recommended to discontinue its use for 6 weeks before proceeding with permanent lips. Retinol can cause excessive drying and irritation, and affect the healing process.
  • Antibiotics: If you have taken antibiotics within the last 2 weeks, it is best to delay the lip procedure. Antibiotics can increase the risk of complications.
  • Active Cold Sores: People who have an active herpes outbreak should avoid getting a semi-permanent lip treatment. The procedure can exacerbate the outbreak and potentially spread the infection.
  • Recent Lip Filler: If you have had lip fillers within the last 4 weeks, it is advisable to wait before your permanent lip tattoo. This allows the lips to fully heal for optimal results.

How much does a Lip Tattoo cost?

One of the questions we often get asked is, “How much does a lip tattooing cost?”

The price of your permanent lips depends on the effect you would like to achieve. Each style has its unique charm and will give you a different look. Would you like a defined lip liner, a beautiful gradient with ombre lips, a natural tint of lip blush, or a corrective procedure for cleft lip?

When it comes to pricing it also depends on the technician performing your lip tattoo, their skill level, experience, and knowledge contribute to the final cost.

The location can too affect the overall cost.

What are the Benefits of Semi-Permanent Lip Tattoo?

  • One of the key reasons for getting your lips tattooed is to address asymmetry. With a lip blush we can achieve a more balanced and harmonious look. Additionally, if you’ve lost shape in your outline, we can sharpen those contours, giving your lips a defined look.
  • If you struggle with an uneven or blurred lip contour, maybe you’ve experienced an outbreak of cold sores that have left your lips less than perfect. Semi-permanent lip makeup is an ideal solution for these concerns. We can match the pigment colour to your natural lip shade, and seamlessly restore your lip’s uneven contours.
  • Would you like a subtle enhancement that looks very natural? Semi-permanent lip tattoo can create the illusion of larger lips by filling in the receding colour. The key is to focus on enhancing the shape while staying within the natural lip line.
  • If you have a cleft lip or any visible scars in your lip area, semi-permanent lip tattooing can make the scars less noticeable and lips more symmetrical. It can help to camouflage these imperfections, giving you a natural and flawless looking lips.

Semi-permanent lip tattoo offers a multitude of benefits. From addressing asymmetry to enhancing lip contours and correcting colour, this cosmetic procedure can transform your lips and boost your self-confidence.

Can I Get Semi-Permanent Lip Tattoo when I already have Lip Fillers?

Have you ever wondered if you could enhance your lips with both lip filler and semi-permanent tattoo?

Can I Combine Lip Filler and Permanent Makeup?

Yes, you absolutely can have both – lip filler and permanent lips. However, it’s important to keep a certain time gap between the two treatments.

Permanent Lips:

Permanent lip makeup will give you a natural-looking, long-lasting colour and defined lip contours. This technique uses pigments that are implanted in your skin to change the tone, shade or colour of your lips. Whether you prefer a subtle nude or a vibrant tone, we can create a customised look that suits your style.

Lip Filler:

Lip filler is used to add volume and plumpness to your lips. With russian lip technique, we can also improve and change the shape of your lips (for example enhance a non-existing cupid’s bow). Dermal filler can help you achieve fuller, youthful-looking lips. This treatment also helps to smooth out fine lines.

These two treatments may be combined. Start with lip filler to enhance volume and definition. Once your lips have settled you can then proceed with a semi-permanent lip tattoo. This should be done no earlier than 4-5 weeks. This way, the lip blush will beautifully complement the shape and fullness achieved through lip filler, enhancing the overall look. The ultimate goal of combining lip filler with a semi-permanent lip tattoo is to create lips that are not only beautifully shaped but also have a vibrant, long-lasting colour.

Lip filler and semi-permanent lip tattoo can be the dream team for achieving perfect lips.

Semi-Permanent Lip Tattoo or Filler: What treatment shall I get first?

Are you thinking of getting both treatments? Semi-permanent lips and lip filler. Make sure you arrange these treatments in the right order to achieve the best results and enhance your lips to perfection.

We recommend to get your lip filler first and semi-permanent lips done second. The great thing about semi-permanent makeup is that it will lasts longer than lip filler. Semi-permanent makeup can last from 2 to 5 years, and filler lasts between 8 to 12 months.

By getting your lip filler first, you improve the shape of your lips, making it easier to achieve a more symmetrical look with pigmentation. Filler will also plump up and moisturise your lips, so it will be easier to implant the pigment without stretching the skin too much.

By following this order, you can ensure that your lips always look their absolute best. The combination of semi-permanent lips and lip filler helps you achieve the desired lip size and symmetry while maintaining soft and juicy colour.

It’s an efficient and effective way to achieve the stunning lips you’ve dreamed of.

Send us an email and discuss your specific goals. We can create a personalised treatment plan that suits your needs. With the right order and guidance, you’re on your way to achieving the perfect pout.

What is Lip Blush?

Are you dreaming of having naturally beautiful lips? Lip blush treatment can help you to redefine your lips while keeping the natural look. This procedure gives you a delicate touch of softly shaded colour, resulting in a truly natural look for your lips.

With a blush of colour it naturally enhances the shape and gives definition to your lips. This creates a subtle effect on your lips that looks fresh and radiant but very natural.

This procedure is semi-permanent, meaning it offers long-lasting results. Over time, the colour gradually fades, allowing you to change your lip shade or simply let it fade away naturally. No more smudged lipstick, just flawless lips that look gorgeous but so natural!

Why would you choose permanent lip blush over traditional makeup? There’s plenty of benefits. Unlike traditional lipstick, which needs frequent touch-ups, lip blush stays put all day long. The lip blush looks soft and natural compared to a heavier looking lipstick.

The application process is quick and relatively painless. We use very gentle tattoo techniques and vibrant pigments. You’ll leave our permanent makeup studio feeling confident and ready to conquer the world with your new and improved lips.

Book your semi-permanent lip blush consultation now. Enhance your natural beauty and get the confidence that comes with having perfect lips every day.

Can I choose any colour for my lip tattoo, or are there limitations?

There is a wide range of colours available for lip tattooing, but there are certain limitations to consider.

When we choose and mix a lip colour for you, we have to take under consideration the natural colour of your lips. Some people have lips that are very pale, with cool or warm undertones, or darker in colour. It is a very important factor and different lips will require a different mix of colours. Darker or cooler lips will need to be neutralised first, without this procedure they may end up looking cool and purple.

It’s essential to take your skin tone into account when selecting a colour, as some shades may complement your complexion better than others. The same colour mix will heal different on dark. light, and pale lips, and lips with warm or colder tone.

If you have a colour that you love and want tattooed on your lips, consult with us. We will analyse your natural lip tone and offer suggestions which colours would work best for you. We will guide you through the colour options and help you choose a shade that suits your preferences. It’s important to communicate your desired outcome clearly so that we can provide personalised advice and recommendations.

Are there any risks and side effects of lip tattooing?

We always carry out a consultation for more accurate and personalised advice, and to minimise any possible side effects.

1. Infection:
There is a potential risk of infection after getting a semi permanent makeup treatment. We always follow strict hygiene practices, use sterile, disposable equipment, and provide appropriate aftercare instructions to minimise any risk. Some health conditions may cause prolonged healing and during that period people who are affected, can be more susceptible to pick up infections. That’s why the consultation is so important, so we can advise you on having a safe and pleasant treatment, or in some cases refuse the treatment if we think that would be a safer option.

2. Swelling and discomfort:

After the procedure, it is normal to experience some swelling or discomfort in the lip area. Bruising is very unlikely, but sometimes may happen. This subsides within a couple of hours to a day, but in some cases may last longer. It’s important to follow the aftercare properly. The consultation may help discover if you take any medications, supplements or have any conditions that may make the swelling or bleeding during the treatment worse.

3. Allergic reactions:

Some people may have an allergic reaction to the pigments or products used during the tattoo process. This can result in irritation, itching, redness, or other allergic symptoms. It’s advisable to discuss any known allergies with us during your consultation. We conduct a patch test during your consultation to avoid any surprises during the treatment.

4. Colour fading or migration:

Over time, the colour of cosmetic tattoo will gradually fade, it can also change slightly due to factors such as tanning, natural skin exfoliation, and individual skin chemistry, aftercare and lifestyle.

In extremely rare cases, the tattoo pigment may migrate outside the area where it was implanted, looking blurred or uneven. This usually happens if the person wouldn’t disclose some important medication they take or health conditions they suffer from. It’s essential not to hide any information about medication (e.g. blood thinners or certain supplements may increase bleeding, swelling, bruising and possible pigment migration) to reduce the risk of complications.

5. Scarring or texture changes:

Although extremely rare, there is a small risk of scarring or texture changes in the skin following a lip tattoo. This usually happens if the healing process is disrupted. It is very important not to pick or scratch on the treated area.

Certain products or medications like oral or topical retinols can have an effect on the treated skin. We advise our clients during the consultation to discontinue the use of their retinols so we can safely follow with the permanent makeup treatment.

It’s important to choose a reputable and experienced permanent make up technician who will prioritise your safety and follow proper procedures to minimise any risks.
