How high maintenance are eyelash extensions?

Lash extensions aftercare

Eyelash extensions require some maintenance to keep them looking their best. Here are important points to consider regarding the care and upkeep of your extensions:

Beyond that there are just a few points to get the most out of your eyelash extensions

1. Thorough Cleaning: Cleaning your lashes is crucial for their longevity and overall eye health. Some clients avoid proper cleaning due to concerns about the extensions falling out. However, regular cleaning removes makeup, dirt, and debris, preventing the breakdown of the glue bond and allowing your natural lashes to remain healthy. It is recommended to clean your lashes once or twice a day using a gentle eye makeup remover and an oil-free lash wash or shampoo. Use a soft bristle brush to massage the cleanser into the root of your eyelashes, ensuring a thorough cleaning, and rinse with water.

2. Makeup Removal: It is essential to remove all eye makeup, including mascara, every day before washing your lashes with the lash wash. Choose an oil-free eye makeup remover that does not require shaking to avoid any oil content that may break down the adhesive bond of the extensions. Look for products such as Nivea Gentle Eye Makeup Remover or Clarins Gentle Eye Makeup Remover.

3. Avoid Oil-Based Products: Products containing oil can weaken the adhesive bond and cause the lashes to come off prematurely. Avoid lash growth treatments that aren’t recommended for extensions wearers, cleansing oils, eye makeup removers with oil, wipes with glycerine, baby wipes, and any products designed for dry skin or instant makeup removal. Opt for oil-free alternatives.

4. Compatible Eyeliners: If using eyeliner with your extensions, ensure it is not waterproof, water-resistant, colour-stay, kohl pencil, or waterproof gel liner. These types of eyeliners can be difficult to remove and may interfere with proper cleansing. Recommended eyeliners include Flirties or Neicha liquid eyeliner, Xtreme Lashes pencils, and Nars eyeliner pencils. Dark eye shadow smudged along the lash line is also a great alternative.

5. Avoid Heat and Perspiration: Exposure to excessive heat, such as saunas or hot baths, may affect the durability of your lash extensions. Properly washing and drying your lashes after exercising is important since sweat and oils can impact their longevity. Side or stomach sleepers may experience a slightly higher shedding rate compared to back sleepers.

6. In the 1st 24 hours after lash application (infills and new sets) avoid wearing makeup, avoid direct water on your face, don’t touch or play with your eyelashes, avoid having a bath, shower or washing your hair. Plan your appointment in advance before any events or trips.

By following these guidelines and incorporating good lash care habits, you can enjoy longer lasting and beautifully maintained eyelash extensions. With proper care and maintenance, you’ll find that lash extensions not only save you time from daily mascara application but also provide a more stunning and hassle-free look for your eyes.
