How to Prepare for Your Medical Micro-pigmentation Treatment
Medical micro-pigmentation, or medical tattooing involves implanting pigment in the skin to blend in different skin colours into one.
Skin tone colour matching is carried out prior to the treatment.
A sensitivity patch test must be performed prior to the medical micro-pigmentation procedure.
Pre-treatment Checklist for Medical Tattooing
1. Skin Tone Matching: Avoid tanning before the skin tone matching process and throughout the treatment plan to ensure accurate results.
2. Patch Test: A sensitivity patch test is required before the procedure to ensure you’re not allergic to the pigments.
3. Multiple Sessions: You may need multiple sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. This allows the skin to heal fully between treatments.
4. Initial Colour Intensity: The colour may appear more intense and darker immediately after the treatment. This will soften as the skin heals over the next few days.
5. Swelling and Redness: Swelling, redness, and occasionally bruising may occur after each session. You might want to avoid social events immediately afterward.
6. Medications: Avoid aspirin or anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen two days before treatment. However, do not stop taking any prescribed medications without consulting your doctor.
7. Alcohol: Do not drink alcohol for at least two days before and after your session, as it can thin the blood and increase the risk of bruising.
8. Aftercare: Follow the aftercare instructions carefully to avoid infections. Keeping the treated area clean is crucial for proper healing.
Skin Cosmetic Products:
Do not use Retin-A or retinol products near the treatment area for six weeks prior.
Avoid AHA products for four weeks before treatment.
Refrain from professional chemical peels near the treatment area for four weeks prior.
Blood Donation
You will not be eligible to donate blood for 12 months after your medical micro-pigmentation procedure.
Specific Guidelines for Cleft Lip Tattooing
If you’re planning a cleft lip tattoo and have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex), it’s recommended to take anti-herpes medication for one week before and after the procedure. This helps prevent a potential outbreak, as the procedure can trigger the dormant virus.
Other Considerations:
Laser Hair Removal: IPL laser hair removal should be completed at least two weeks before your treatment.
Lip Waxing and Bleaching: Avoid lip waxing or bleaching two weeks before and two weeks after your procedure to prevent irritation.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure a smoother treatment process and better results. Always consult us if you have any questions or concerns before the procedure.
