How to Care for Your Semi-Permanent Eyeliner Tattoo
Proper aftercare is important so your semi-permanent eyeliner tattoo heals beautifully and achieves the best results.
What to Expect After Your Eyeliner Tattoo
For up to 4 days after your semi-permanent eyeliner procedure, you may experience mild redness, slight swelling, tenderness, and possibly some eyelashes sticking together, especially overnight. Dry and itchy skin is also normal. These are all typical healing symptoms and nothing to worry about.
Daily Care Tips for Eyeliner Tattoo Healing
First 48 Hours Post-Procedure:
- If you need you can apply disposable cold packs to reduce swelling.
Daily Care for the First 7 Days:
- Apply a healing balm or Bepanthen cream 3 times a day using a clean cotton bud for each eye. Always wash your hands before application to avoid contamination.
- Use a gentle facial cleanser during the first week, avoiding direct splashes on your face. Clean the eyeliner area twice daily with damp cotton pads.
- If the area gets wet, pat it dry with a clean tissue.
- Keep your hair away from your eyeliner to avoid infection.
- Itching is normal—do not pick, peel, or rub the area. Let the color naturally flake off.
- Avoid wearing contact lenses for 24 hours after treatment.
- Continue using your usual eye cream, but avoid applying it directly over the eyeliner tattoo.
- Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from wind and pollution.
- Avoid beauty treatments around your eyes for 5 days after the procedure.
- Do not apply any makeup near the treated area for 3 days, and use a new mascara after 3 days to avoid bacteria from old mascara.
Avoid for 2 weeks After Your Eyeliner Tattoo
Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning, Jacuzzis, saunas, chlorinated pools, and saltwater.
Do not use eyelash tints, lash curling, lash extensions, or lash growth products.
Avoid direct shower spray on the eyeliner area.
Long-Term Care for Semi-Permanent Eyeliner
If you’re planning eye surgery or need an MRI scan, inform your doctor about your eyeliner tattoo.
Notify the National Blood Service if you plan to donate blood, as you may be ineligible for 4 months after your procedure.
Important information
In rare cases, you may lose some eyelashes during healing, but they typically grow back within 2-4 months.
Expect your eyeliner color to be more intense and defined for the first week, but it will soften and lighten as it heals.
Healing time is typically 14 days but can take longer if you’re stressed, have a weakened immune system, or maintain a poor diet.
Some unevenness in color is normal—this will be corrected at your top-up visit.
