Top 9 Most Asked Questions About Semi-Permanent Makeup
Is Semi-Permanent Makeup Painful?
Semi-permanent makeup is becoming increasingly popular as a convenient way to enhance natural look with long-lasting results.
Is Semi-Permanent Makeup Painful?
Before starting the procedure on areas like the lips, eyelids, or eyebrows, a numbing cream is applied to minimise discomfort. An anaesthetic cream is also used during the treatment to ensure the experience is as pain-free as possible.
When Can I Start Wearing Makeup Again?
After a semi-permanent makeup treatment, it’s best to avoid makeup until the skin has healed on the surface. For eyebrows or eyeliner, wait 5 to 7 days, while for lips, give it 7 to 10 days. This allows the treated area to fully recover before applying any products.
Can I Tan Before or After a Semi-Permanent Makeup Treatment?
Tanning before your procedure isn’t recommended as it causes skin inflammation, dries out your skin, alters the natural tone of your skin, making it difficult for us to match the pigment accurately. After the treatment, you should avoid sun exposure for at least 4 weeks as it can cause the pigment to fade or even change colour, especially on areas like freshly done brows, which may turn bluish or ashy under UV light.
Is Alcohol Safe Before and After Semi-Permanent Makeup?
It’s recommended to avoid alcohol for 2-3 days before and after your treatment. Alcohol thins the blood, which can lead to more bleeding during the procedure, potential pigment migration, and increased swelling and bruising afterward.
When Can I Get Eyelash Extensions After Eyeliner Tattooing?
For best results, eyelash extensions should be removed about a week or 2 before your semi-permanent eyeliner appointment. Semi-permanent makeup usually requires two sessions—the initial treatment and a touch-up 4 to 6 weeks later. You can safely book eyelash extensions about 2 weeks after the touch-up, once your eyeliner has healed.
When Can I Use Eyelash Growth Serum After Eyeliner Tattoo?
As with eyelash extensions, you should wait until your second eyeliner session has fully healed before resuming the use of eyelash growth serums or conditioners. This usually means waiting about two weeks after your touch-up appointment.
You should discontinue lash and brow serums at least 4 -5 weeks before your appointment as it will irritate your skin.
Are Eyebrows Shaved Before Semi-Permanent Brow Tattoo?
Absolutely not! We never shave off the natural brow hairs before a semi-permanent eyebrow treatment. Instead, we shape the brows and use your natural hairs as part of the template to create the most realistic and natural look. I always encourage clients to keep as much of their natural brow as possible.
Can I Return to Work the Same Day?
Yes, you can! After the procedure, you might experience mild swelling or redness, but it usually subsides quickly. Most clients feel comfortable returning to their normal daily activities on the same day.
Will My Lips Swell During Semi-Permanent Lip Tattoo?
Lip swelling varies from person to person. Some people experience significant swelling, while others have very little. Generally, the lips are more sensitive than the brows or eyeliner, so some degree of swelling is common. However, it usually resolves within a day or two.
By following these tips and understanding what to expect, you can feel confident and prepared for your semi-permanent makeup treatment, ensuring optimal results and a smooth recovery.
