Permanent Makeup Aftercare
Proper aftercare is important to keep your permanent makeup looking fresh and vibrant.
Expect some mild redness and swelling immediately after the procedure. These will subside within a day or two.
Clean the treated area gently using saline or sterile water, as directed. Avoid harsh soaps and any lotions or creams except for those recommended by us.
Use thin layer of bepanthen cream to keep the area hydrated without overloading it.
Avoid direct sun, swimming, saunas, and heavy exercise for about a week after your appointment to allow your skin to heal fully.
Do not apply makeup on or near the treated area for about a week to prevent irritation and infection.

Preparation and Aftercare tips for Permanent Makeup tattoo.
Beauty Bar in Hertfordshire preparation tips for Permanent Makeup.
- Before the procedure, take a moment to picture your ideal outcome and the look you’d like to achieve. We can help you choose the shades and designs that fit your style but your preferences are very important. Take some time to research pictures of our work and online, to have a clear picture of how you’d like your permanent makeup to look. You can also experiment with different looks, try to apply different styles of eyebrows or eyeliners and see what you feel best with. We’ll work together to make sure your chosen style is reflected in your results.
- Optimal results may require a touch-up session about 4 to 6 weeks after your initial appointment. This follow-up is included in your service and ensures we achieve the most refined, lasting look.
- After your procedure, expect your color to appear sharper and darker at first – this is a normal part of the healing process. As the skin recovers, the pigment will start to soften to a natural look.
Pre-Care Tips
1. Social Plans: Avoid major events on the day of your procedure, as some redness or slight swelling may occur in sensitive areas. Or plan your appointment around your important events and holidays.
2. Makeup: Feel free to wear makeup to your appointment. We’ll clean the skin before we begin.
3. Medications: Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, or other anti-inflammatory medications for 2 days prior to your session. If you’re on any prescribed medications, consult with your doctor first. Avoid blood-thinning supplements, and discontinue oral retinols and steroids for at least 6 months before the procedure.
4. Alcohol: Avoid alcohol for 2 days before your appointment, as it thins the blood, which can increase bleeding and bruising.
5. Skincare: Stop using Retinol or AHA-based skincare products near the treated area for 4–6 weeks before the procedure. Avoid chemical peels or professional treatments on the treatment area for at least 4 weeks before your appointment.
6. Chemotherapy: Wait at least 6 months after your last chemotherapy session before scheduling permanent makeup.
Additionally, please note that blood donation is deferred for 4 months following a micro-pigmentation procedure.

Cold Sore Precaution – If you have a history of cold sores, consider preventative antiviral medication to reduce the risk of an outbreak. Speak with your GP or local pharmacist; they may suggest starting the medication one week before and continuing one week after your procedure. This can help reduce the cold sore flare-up by 80%, allowing for a worry-free healing experience.
Hair Removal – For people considering IPL laser hair removal around the lips, schedule it at least two weeks before your lip tattoo. If you prefer waxing or bleaching, complete these treatments two weeks prior. This guarantees your skin is calm and free from any irritation that might affect the tattooing process.
Electrolysis and Dermal Fillers – If you’ve had recent electrolysis or lip fillers, finish these treatments at least four weeks before your lip tattoo appointment. This gives your skin time to settle.
Brow Tattoo tips.

IPL Hair Removal – complete your sessions at least two weeks before brow tattooing. This prevents any skin sensitivity that could interfere with the process.
Electrolysis – aim to complete sessions no less than two weeks before tattooing.
Eyebrow Tinting – have it done four weeks before tattooing. This allows us to work with your natural hair colour, making it easier to match pigment perfectly.
Hair-Growth Products – avoid using any eyebrow growth products at least four weeks before your appointment.
Botox – allow at least two weeks after your injections (including any touch-ups) before tattooing. This ensures your Botox has fully settled.
Eyeliner Tattoo Tips.
Lash Treatments – Plan any lash tinting or perming treatments 4 weeks before your eyeliner tattoo session. This allows your lashes and skin to fully settle, reducing any chance of irritation.
Lash-Stimulating Products – If you’re using lash growth serums, stop applying them at least four weeks before your tattoo appointment.
Remove Lash Extensions – If you wear artificial lashes, remove them at least one week before your appointment. This reduces the chance of any infection. You can resume wearing artificial lashes two weeks after your eyeliner tattoo, once healing is complete.
Contact Lenses – On the day of your appointment, skip the contacts and bring your glasses instead. You can return to wearing contacts 5-7 days after your session.
