How to prepare for medical micropigmentation?

Cosmetic tattoo treatment

Medical micro-pigmentation, or medical tattooing involves implanting pigment in the skin to create the look of areola, or to blend the skin colours on the scar tissue.

Skin tone colour matching is carried out prior to the treatment to match the colour perfectly.

A sensitivity patch test must be performed prior to the pigmentation procedure.

Before your medical tattoo appointment

We match pigments to your true skin tone, avoid tanning before your appointment to get accurate results.

A sensitivity patch test is required before the procedure to exclude allergic reactions to pigments and numbing cream.

You may need multiple sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Your skin must heal fully between treatments.

The colour may look more intense and darker immediately after the treatment. This will soften as the skin heals over the next few days.

Swelling, redness, and occasionally bruising may happen after each session. You might want to avoid social events immediately afterward.

Avoid taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen two days before your treatment. Do not stop taking any prescribed medications without consulting your doctor.

Do not drink alcohol for two days before and after your session, it thins the blood and increases the risk of bruising.

Follow the aftercare instructions to avoid infections. Keep the treated area clean for proper healing.

Do not use Retin-A or retinol products near the treatment area for six weeks before.

Avoid AHA and BHA products for four weeks before treatment.

Do not get professional chemical peels near the treatment area for four weeks before the treatment.

Blood donation

In the UK you will not be eligible to donate blood for 12 months after your medical micro-pigmentation procedure.

Cleft lip tattoo

If you’re planning a cleft lip tattoo and have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex), it’s recommended to take anti-herpes medication for one week before and after the procedure. This helps prevent a potential outbreak, as the procedure can trigger the dormant virus.

Hair removal before your appointment

IPL laser hair removal should be completed at least two weeks before your treatment.

Avoid lip waxing or bleaching two weeks before and two weeks after your procedure to prevent irritation.

By following these guidelines, you can make sure your treatment process will be smoother and you will get better results. Always consult us if you have any questions or concerns before the procedure.
