How to look after your eyelash extensions?
20 things you need to remember when caring for your individual eyelashes.
Eyelash extensions, just like natural eyelashes, are very delicate. To enjoy them as long as possible, it is important to follow aftercare recommendations. Lash extensions that are looked after properly are not only very comfortable to wear, but they will also last longer, and proper aftercare will help to keep your natural lashes healthy and happy 😊
How good your lashes will look and how long they will last very much depend on the application, as well as on how well you are looking after them. Even best-applied eyelash extensions can be ruined by incorrect aftercare.
Every professional lash stylist should inform her or his clients on how to correctly look after extensions after application.
The first 48 hours after application are the most important. During that time the eyelash glue is still bonding, and it is very crucial to follow these steps to ensure those lash extensions will be lasting longer and looking nicer.
1. Try to avoid touching and rubbing your new extensions.
2. Avoid heat and higher temperatures and hot/warm water (sauna, swimming pool, shower, washing your hair, cooking and steam from cooking, opening the hot oven door).
3. Avoid using cosmetic products and makeup around the eye area.
4. Avoid facials.
5. At night it is recommended to sleep on your back and avoid rubbing your new extensions on the pillow.
6. Avoid combing/brushing your eyelashes until you washed them 24hours after application.
It is also very important to look after your eyelash extensions after the 48hours have passed.
Currently, there is plenty of products for eyelash extensions on the market. However, there are cosmetics and products which should be avoided in particular when wearing semi-permanent eyelash extensions.
What do you need to remember if you would like to make your lash extensions last longer? 48 hours after the application:
1. Take special care when removing face and eye makeup. Remove eye makeup properly every night. Do not rub the eyelashes.
2. Avoid using oily products around the eye area.
3. To remove eye makeup, use water-based makeup remover eg. Nivea gentle eye makeup remover.
4. To remove eye makeup use lint free products (use a cotton bud on your eyelids, and remove makeup in the direction away from the lashes).
5. Treat your eyelashes gently, do not rub or pull on them.
6. Minimise or completely stop visits to the sauna, steam rooms, avoid long hot baths – frequent exposure of eyelashes to sudden changes in temperature and moisture may weaken the bonds.
7. Avoid using waterproof cosmetics on and close to eyelashes (mascara, eyeliner).
8. If you have to use mascara, it should only be a professional water-based mascara that is designed to be used on eyelash extensions.
9. Do not use an eyelash curler – it will break the bonds between the natural eyelashes and extensions.
10. Wash your lashes every day – wash eyelashes and eyelids with a soft bristle brush and recommended products for eyelash extensions every day.
11. If you have oily or combination skin, use blotting paper to prevent natural oils from spreading to the eyelashes.
12. If necessary, after you washed and dried your eyelashes, brush your extensions with a dry and clean mascara brush.
13. Never perm your eyelashes when you have eyelash extensions on.
14. To dry your eyelash extensions, use a lint-free paper, eg a kitchen towel.
Keep your lashes clean and healthy.
Healthy lashes are happy lashes 🙂
